We believe that in Jesus Christ, God’s kingdom has and is coming on earth (Mark 1:14,15). We believe that Christ’s death and resurrection have defeated the powers of darkness, sin and death which so permeate our experience as human beings. This fills us with hope to live differently now in the power of God’s Spirit and to call others to join us in God’s ways.
We believe that the Bible reveals to us God’s great story in which we can all find our part. Scripture calls us to live to our true potential in Christ. It calls us to learn how to love God fully and to love others radically. We believe that God is one – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Radical love is central to God’s identity and therefore to the calling upon our lives.
We believe that the gospel message is always personal, yet never private. Each of us must make our own response to Christ if we are to participate in his Kingdom and follow in his way.
We are a Baptist church and an active member-church of Tasmanian Baptists. We believe in the Lordship of Christ, regenerate membership, believers baptism by immersion, the priesthood of all believers, congregational governance, the autonomy of the local church, the association principle, the separation of church and state, religious freedom, and the liberty of conscience under God. We practice a form of ‘open’ church membership.
City Baptist Church affirms the historic orthodox beliefs of the Christian faith. To see our formal statement of belief, or to ask a question, please contact our pastor.
