A Compassionate and Welcoming Presence in the City

Following the way of Jesus with love, justice, and creative participation—especially among those on the margins.

Welcome to City Baptist

We gather on Sundays, but so much of what we do happens across Launceston during the week through initiatives like hospitality, street ministry, and creative community action. Come as you are, and be part of a faith community grounded in Jesus and with a heart for justice, peace, and belonging.

Church Beyond Sundays

Our faith is alive in the streets, in gardens, at dinner tables, and in the margins. We call this City Seed

Community Garden

Cultivate fresh produce and community spirit, then cook delicious traditional meals to share.

Practicing the Way

Starting in Feb 2026, Practicing the Way "features eight sessions of teaching, guided conversation, and spiritual exercises designed to lay a foundation for lifelong apprenticeship to Jesus."

Street Ministry
(Drop‐in Centre)

For 18 years we provided a home-cooked meal and a caring environment for the street community (on Saturday nights). Unfortunately, this ministry concluded at the end of Feb 2026. We’re currently dreaming with God about the practicalities of engaging in this space again.

Hospitality
(Hypocrites Anonymous, Young Adult Dinners)

From open tables to honest conversations, our hospitality spaces invite people to eat, laugh, and share life.

Northern Refugee Support

We walk alongside former refugees as they navigate life in Tasmania, offering friendship, practical support, and welcome.

Tyler Village Chaplain

Our chaplain brings care and companionship to elderly residents at Tyler Village, offering presence, prayer, and a listening ear.

In Partnership With:

Re-Imagine (ecumenical young adults)

Young adults from across churches gather to discuss questions of faith, justice, and belonging in today’s world.

Shekinah House

Hope for the homeless. As a church, we partner with Shekinah House financially, and several in our community volunteer.

Youth Revolution

Through fun, faith, and connection, Revolution Youth helps young people discover who they are and how they’re loved.

What Drives Us

  • No matter who you are or where you’ve come from, you’re welcome here. We’re creating a space where everyone, especially those who feel on the edges, can feel at home, relax, and belong.

  • We believe following Jesus means caring for people and the Earth. That’s why we speak up for justice, stand with the vulnerable, and take action for a healthier, fairer world.

  • We love being a church where kids, teens, young adults, and older generations all gather, learn from each other, and grow together.

  • Faith isn’t just for Sundays. We want our everyday lives to reflect the good news of Jesus, in how we love, serve, speak up, and show up across our city. City Seed helps us do that in creative and practical ways.

  • Our heart beats for those who often get overlooked. The lonely, the hurting, the ones who’ve walked away from church but not from God. We believe Jesus is already at work in those places, and we want to be there too.
